Mike Barragan joins Board of Directors for Valley Schools

Mike Barragan has joined the Board of Directors for Valley Schools. Mike Barragan has extensive experience in school finance and is currently Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Auxiliary Services for the Glendale Elementary School District. Mr. Barragan has also served as Director of Finance for the Tolleson Union High School District, worked for the Arizona State Department of Education and is a past President of the Arizona Association of School Business Officials (AASBO).

Valley Schools has served school districts for three decades in Arizona providing health and other employee benefits, workers’ compensation and liability insurance to tens of thousands of employees and their dependents. Valley Schools is the only non-profit managed organization offering these group services in Arizona to government agencies.

“I’m honored and humbled to join the Board of Valley Schools,” said Mike Barragan, “I’ve been at districts that were members for the better part of ten years now, and they have saved my districts and others millions of dollars during that time.”

The current Valley Schools Board Chairman and CEO is Tom Boone, former Assistant Superintendent of Finance at Deer Valley Unified School District. “I welcome this new voice to our Board of Directors. We take pride at Valley Schools that our Board is composed of school experts drawn from our membership. A strong part of our successful model is our open public meetings and the diversity and experience of our leadership. Mike Barragan is an example of such excellence,” stated Tom Boone.

Mike Barragan explained his reason for joining, “I’ve had ample opportunity in my career to see the other options available to school districts. Valley Schools has been competitive, provided me with excellent service and has been transparent in my interactions with them. I appreciate that the Valley Schools team is composed of school finance experts who understand the challenges school districts encounter. I hope to grow professionally to better serve my district, contribute to the success of Valley Schools and be a valuable resource to my colleagues around the State.”
